SugarCRM Announces SQL Azure Support
After the efforts Microsoft has put into supporting PHP, a major PHP development company has announced they are going to begin supporting Azure. This support, along with the ease of moving from Microsoft’s traditional SQL versions to SQL Azure “was simple and straightforward, taking just a couple weeks of development time, ” according to SugarCRM’s official release. This is showing how Microsoft’s opening up will start to pay dividends for both Microsoft and the open source community.
SQL Azure brings performance clustering to SugarCRM. Something that has been lacking in the earlier versions of Microsoft SQL. I look forward to trying out the new version of SugarCRM running on top of SQL Azure. I’ve used it in the past on average servers, the performance was always a bit slower than my users would have liked. Several companies have adopted Sugar despite the speed issues. I look forward to beginning tests with these companies and compare apples-to-apples with their existing instances against this new SQL Azure backed solution.
This is indeed an exciting time for me. There is much promise in this new open source friendly Microsoft. I look forward to checking out the results! What do you think? Am I being too optimistic? Have you tried porting any solutions to SQL Azure yet? What have your experiences been?
