Killer Feature Reporting Services 2008

Reporting Services in SQL server 2005 does amazing things.  But it has one drawback.  To make it fly you have to be using Visual Studio.  That’s fine for us, the IT Professionals, but what about the rest of your staff, the non-IT Professionals? They get report builder which is very easy to use but is also limited in what it can do.

Reporting Serives 2008 Report Builder

This will changes with the next release of Reporting Services.

This is going to make our lives a little easier – we build the report models for the information workers with all the content they need and let them get on with designing their reports their way. Which will leave us a bit more time to work on those documentation, and maintenance tasks at the bottom of our in trays.

You give them all the data points they could want, and they get to slice and dice the numbers to their hearts content.  It’s a bridge between full service and self service Business Intelligence.  This is definitely something worth checking out, especially if your company is already using Reporting Services.

And if you’re not using reporting services… what are you using?  Crystal?  Do you really want to have to be an “order taker”?  It’s time to step up and be a partner!  Look into these new features today!
